President's Message

Dear friends and colleagues,

As founder president, I am deeply honoured and privileged to announce the dawn of the new Society of Chest Imaging and Intervention (SCII). It is with immense pleasure and deep sense of gratitude that we embark on this journey towards advancing Thoracic Radiology in India.

Our task is both daunting and exciting, at the same time. We have a multipronged mandate; primarily encompassing education, research and formation of practice guidelines. We will proceed headlong into these tasks, as there is so much that needs to be done. For our members, we hope the society will become a mentor, guide and friend empowering them to face challenges in daily practice.

Besides the annual meeting, the goal of education will be met through the website; by making the portal a rich, education resource. The” Members Only” zone of the website, which will be launched after the first meeting will be developed for this purpose. It will contain presented papers, quiz section and a journal club. Subsequently, we hope to incorporate faculty talks and a “blog” also. SCII will also strive to create sub-speciality training opportunities, skill enhancement modules, outline the curriculum and also accredit the same.

SCII wishes to provide a platform for Indian Research in thoracic radiology. All conference abstracts will be catalogued and retained on the website. Over a period of time, “incubation cells” will be developed to help young radiologists convert their innovative ideas into feasible research, and eventually meaningful outcomes.

Practice guidelines or Society statements will be formulated periodically, and posted on the website. These will include imaging protocols and structured reporting. Similarly, patient education material will also be generated and hosted on the portal.

In the coming years, SCII will aim at achieving excellence in Thoracic Radiology through collaborations with International thoracic radiology societies and National societies of allied disciplines such as; pulmonology, oncology, pathology and microbiology.

In this massive endeavour, I am joined by a sterling and motivated set of my colleagues on the Executive Committee, I am particularly indebted to Bhavin, Aparna and Vimal; and all our founder members for making this a reality.I look forward to expanding the team ,collaborating with bright minds and making new friends; as we all move forward together in this exciting journey!

Thanks and best wishes,

Ashu Seith Bhalla

President, SCII
